Run 4 Hunger Thanks THE 2011 Race Participants for THEIR Patience

“Rain rain go away” is a common children’s song we all know and have sung on many occasions.  Unfortunately for the Run 4 Hunger Race that was scheduled for Sunday July 24th, this little hymn did not work, as heavy rains and dangerous lightening blanketed the area, forcing several start delays ultimately leading to the cancellation of the race.  “Participant safety is paramount in any race and given the frequency and intensity of the lightening, and with the increasingly troublesome radar, we had to make the call and cancel the race” said race director Brian McGreal.  McGreal went on to say that the Run 4 Hunger race committee, wants to sincerely thank all the participants that braved the elements to show up for the race and who showed such great patience and understanding during the decision time.  Amazingly, participants continued to arrive and register onsite during the storm which is a real testament to helping support the very important need to help feed the hungry in Eastern DuPage County.  The Run 4 Hunger is somewhat unique in that it offers a very competitive field of runners along with runners and families who are coming out to support the cause of feeding the hungry.  Proceeds from the race are directed to the Elmhurst/Yorkfield Food Pantry and other local food pantries in need.  For more information on the Elmhurst/Yorkfield Food Pantry please call 630-833-6600 and ask for the food pantry.
